Good day all! Welcome back to your weekly World of Cinema!! Today we have quite the interviewee, you may know him, you may not, he has a knack for being better than you and worse than everyone simultaneously. Please give a warm welcome to… NeoBlaze! He has lots to say so pay attention and let’s get into it!

Hey Neo! Welcome to World of Cinema, how are you?
Hello, I’m doing stupendous, how about you?
Glad to hear it! I’m doing just as wonderfully, would you tell us a little about who you are for those who don’t know you?
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a white girl from Nebraska, I love meeting and socializing with new people and I love playing Club Penguin! For those of you who do know me, no you don’t.
Sounds good!! Now this isn’t a movie question but I have been curious, do you have any hobbies you can share with me?
So basically the main thing I love is listening to music, and also watching/reading stories, particularly tragic ones. Other than that I spend my free time playing games where I can
ragebaitengage with other people here, and dolphin diving into any random rabbit hole of information that tickles my grey matter.
You are so Neo, I can’t explain it any better but you’re so you, and you’re not a big movie person right?
You can say that yeah, there are a lot of classic and contemporary flicks I just haven’t seen. Mainly it’s because I’m lazy and didn’t go to the theatres often until past couple of years. That being said there are still a bunch of movies I’ve seen and adore
That’s great, and honestly it’s not a big deal if it’s just not regularly a part of your life you know, what is your favourite movie then?
It’s hard to pick from my favourites since they’re all vastly different from each other, but for this occasion I’ll go with Jojo Rabbit!

Jojo Rabbit is a fantastic movie!!! I’m actually so so happy you chose this movie! Could you give a little summary about what it’s about?
Trigger Warning in advance: the movie is set in Nazi Germany during World War 2 so there are some disturbing scenes and elements that may look offensive in tone but are ultimately in good faith and intend to satirize the absurdity of propaganda back then. So basically, the movie follows a young boy named Johannes (AKA Jojo) who has Adolf Hitler as his imaginary best friend, filling him with nationalist ideas and aspirations to join the army’s Youth Wing. Funny antics ensue and Jojo finds himself stuck at home where he goes through life struggles with the imaginary Fuhrer on his side and discovers secrets that continuously challenge his world views, leading him to learn and grow as a person in the middle of his colliding world. The movie is full of extremely dark comedy but also has heart and compassion. It’s a hilarious —and at times emotional — ride of satire and absurdity.
That’s such a good summary thank you, now that we got that out of the way, how was your personal opinion on the movie? Don’t be afraid to go in depth
I fell in love with the movie the first time I watched it. If a story is fucked up while also being witty about it then it’s right up my alley. The best part was perhaps Hitler himself (do NOT take this out of context), played by the director Taika Watiti (yes that guy who ruined the Thor Franchise by trying to be too funny, but here he is at the peak of his abilities as a writer, director, and actor) who delivers such an absurd portrayal of history’s most famous punching bag that you can’t help but find him strangely charismatic amidst all his evil and hilarious shenanigans. Most of the characters in general are underrated and had excellent comedy, chemistry with each other and a surprising amount of depth (especially someone like Captain K, played by Sam Rockwell). The story also carefully juggles its hilarious moments with some really haunting ones, especially one scene in particular that must not be spoiled but will hit you like a panzer (haha, get it? Because germa-)
Another standout aspect is the finale that is chaotic, diabolical and stomach hurtingly funny; but also delivers a satisfying ending, finishing off with one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite artists. Overall, nothing but adoration for this movie. It does everything it sets out to do and does it with grace while also holding nothing back in all its messed up-ness.
LMAO I LOVE TAIKA AS HITLER SO MUCH
I have to rewatch this movie, it’s been too long. Thank your for your personal opinion, do you have a preference for movies in this genre? Comedy/war? I know you’re gonna say you like that dark humour type stuff but it’s nice to ask anyways
I like dark humour but to be honest I don’t go out of my way to watch any comedies. But if the movie is deliberately and uncompromisingly a comedy then I’ll probably enjoy it (like The Naked Gun or early Pirates Of The Caribbean movies), as opposed to a lot of modern flicks where it’s not really significant but is shoehorned in (like some of the MCU movies, thought MCU itself has examples of the former type too like GOTG). Ultimately I welcome comedy but not fixated on it.
War on the other hand, is a type of premise that always paves the way for a high stakes plot and tense drama (if handled correctly). While I don’t focus on genres much, stories with War or other tragedies as a premise feel easier to get into. Another genre Jojo rabbit belongs to that I find very palatable would be Historical Fiction, since that also provides really interesting backdrops for stories.
I totally agree with your preferences, I really hate the way newer movies do comedy, it’s the way they try to make tame humour palatable for all audiences, but it makes it boring rather than funny and I love war movies. Would you recommend this movie to others?
Absolutely, it may not be the most family friendly movie, and not appropriate if you’re really sensitive to the whole Nazi backdrop, but everyone will find something worth appreciating in this story, whether it’s the grim comedy or the disturbing drama beneath that, or the weirdly charming characters, or just the ridiculous nature of it all; Everyone will be in for a unique experience.
Honestly I don’t think its disturbing or not family friendly, I think its an important watch but I understand it may be a little triggering for some, but thank you for giving me your time for this interview! Do you have any last words for the readers?
Yep, you know there’s another element that really good movies, and stories in general, tend to have: the element of surprise! Hence I leave you with this gem.
*Cursed image*
You know I can’t use that
