Hey there helpers! Welcome back to the Song of the Week series. This week I am joined by Xyra! They recommended the song Out of the Grid – Tigran Hamasyan

Here’s what she had to say about the song:
Song by Armenian pianist that stretches western music theory, borrows from all different modes like crazy, and doesnt stay in a neat 4/4 either and each section of the song could be viewed as a different meter
Truely other worldly
Tirgan has played it live on stage before too
Then there is a huge pause in the middle, and if you wait
The song completely changes into a slow beautiful waltz
every chord change in this song is its whole own world, and as someone who thinks about music like math and emotion at the same time
Wow. You guys keep picking amazing songs! What an experience—it begins with an intriguing piano motif before launching into full force. Xyra is right about the time signatures—it’s not an even 4/4, but it’s gorgeously put together, and the sections are distinctly clear.
The repetitive motif continues, joined by a building bass guitar, then switches back to a piano-driven section that intensifies with drums. I’m on the edge of my seat as I listen and write, waiting for the next section! Just before the halfway pause, a western metal breakdown influence surfaces—with a short, repeating motif and added drums—then silence allows us to digest the last five minutes.
Just when I think the song has ended, I’m met with this charming waltz. Xyra is spot on again with the beauty of this section – the vocals tie in seamlessly as though another instrument in the song. You can really feel the love and dedication to the technical side of music, and it’s so easy to get lost in the light, airy second half of the song, as well as in the emotion of the entire piece!
Quiz timeee!!
