Food for Every Soul

Hello Helpers! Damn, it’s been 6 months…but welcome back to another edition of Food for Every Soul! In this series, I interview people from the Help Force about their favourite and famous recipes. For this week’s recipe, I interviewed one of our Trainees: Laiba!

I started by asking Laiba some questions about the recipe she had decided to share with us today.

Welcome, Laiba, to our recipe series interview today! Can you tell us what recipe you will be telling us about?

Laiba: Hi! Today I will be going through my spaghetti bolognese recipe!

Sounds Yummy!! Can you tell us why this recipe is important to you, and is there any history or story behind it?

Laiba: I’d say this recipe is important to me because it was the first recipe my mum taught me. I used to watch her quickly make it on many days and it easily became one of my comfort meals. Now, I make it very often!

Here is the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the recipe for this tasty dish by Laiba!

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • 2 onions
  • 500g of minced meat
  • Heaped tsp of basil
  • Half a tsp of curry powder
  • Heaped tsp of Italian herbs
  • Half a tsp of salt
  • A can of peeled plum tomatoes
  • Pack of spaghetti
  1.  Dice the 2 onions and chop 5 cloves of garlic into pieces. I like to keep my garlic quite thick as I love tasting the garlic in my meals!
  2. Turn on the gas around low/medium heat and put around 3 tbsp of olive oil in your large pan. I usually eyeball it, and this can vary depending on how much oil you usually like to use! Add the diced onions and garlic to the pan.
  3. Keep stirring and wait until your onions turn to a light golden brow,n and add in minced meat. Cook this until the meat is no longer pink/red anywhere; it should be a shade of brown.
  4. Once your meat is cooked, add in the herbs! Add in the basil, curry powder, Italian herbs and salt. Stir them well into the meat!
  5. Add in your peeled plum tomatoes and mix well. You might need to squash the tomatoes a bit since they’re quite thick!
  6. Put the lid on your pan and leave it to simmer for 10 minutes on low heat. After 10 minutes, stir it and leave it for another 10 minutes. If you think it needs to be a bit dry, you can do this one more time!

Do you have any tips or tricks on making it, or why people may like this recipe, or any memories from it?

Kaiba: I would say to use a big wooden spoon for sure and have fun with the spices. I tend to eyeball most of it, and it tastes amazing every single time! I have a quite recent memory of my sister and me making it together, which was pretty fun. She’s a great cook, so it was nice to do it with her! I think people would like this recipe because it’s a quick, easy and extremely delicious meal. :)) I hope they enjoy it if they decide to make it!

Thank you for this very delicious recipe, Kaiba! Do you have anything to say to the audience?

Kaiba: Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy the recipe!
And with that, we’ve reached the end of the post. I will be back next time with more fresh and delicious content. If anyone would like to share a recipe with us, DM me with your ideas!
