I started off by asking Mortalidade some questions about the recipe he decided to share with us today!


Welcome Mortalidade to our interview! Can you tell us what recipe you will talking about today?

Mortalidade: The recipe I will talking about and make is called “Pastel de nata”

Can you tell us why this recipe is important to you? Is it a family recipe, and is there any history or story behind it?

Mortalidade: I stole this recipe from the net dont ask why or how come


Here comes the best part, the recipe! (As explained by Mortalidade)

Ingredients

» Semi-skimmed milk

» 1L Lemon peels

» 2pcs. Cinnamon stick

» 2pcs. Sugar

» 500g Flour

» 100g Egg M (2 eggs + 10 yolks) 12pcs.

» Puff pastry 500g

 

Preparation
Step 1 Preheat the oven to 240ºC.
Step 2 In a saucepan, place the milk, lemon peels and cinnamon sticks.
Step 3 Bring to a boil until boiling and turn off.
Step 4 In a bowl, mix the sugar with the flour.
Step 5 Add the mixture to the milk, still very hot, stirring well with sticks.
Step 6 Remove the lemon peels and cinnamon sticks and let cool for 10 minutes.
Step 7 Add whole eggs and yolks. Stir with the rods until you form a homogeneous cream. Bring to a boil again, stirring constantly until thickened.
Step 8 Roll the puff pastry into a cylinder and cut into 3 cm slices.
Step 9 With the help of moistened thumbs, line small metal molds, spreading the dough well up to the edge.
Step 10 Pour the filling into the molds and bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve while still hot. Suggestion: sprinkle with cinnamon.
