Hellooo music lovers and theatrical lovers and everyone in between!!!! This week, I’m bringing you a great theatrical/musical song recommended by one of our fantastic commanders, Beasto, for Song of the Week #23 called Odysseus by the Cast of EPIC: The Musical and Jorge Rivera-Herrans.

I’m a fan of good storylines, and I have been listening to this musical since day one I always wanted to know how the story ends, and this song just made it a perfect ending, a Greek king goes on a long journey after war, and he loses/sacrifices his army. Later on, he has to get home but the Greek gods get in his way. He has to face the challenge ahead that they set for him to get home to his wife and son. The song I picked is the story of how the king kills everyone who gets in his way of achieving his ultimate goal of meeting his wife and son again after 20 years of a long journey with much suffering, an excellent story with a challenging storyline and a perfect ending!
As a fellow ex-theatre student and lover, the emotional depth of EPIC: The Musical lured me in. The way the concept musical blends The Odyssey with modern musical elements creates such a fantastic experience. Each song feels like a scene straight out of a larger production that something a small-time producer wouldn’t be able to do. Jorge Rivera-Herrans, the mastermind of this production, played the roles of Odysseus, the Winions, and Polyphemus.
It was released in 2024 as part of The Ithaca Saga. It builds tension with percussion, brass, and intense string arrangements that mimic the sounds of conflict and chaos of Odysseys’ final battle. The dynamic shifts with ominous periods to explosive and sporadic amounts of energy perfectly capture the listener’s hearts and minds into something of battle anthem within a theatrical production.
