Hello Helpers! Welcome to another edition of Around the HF World, where we explore different countries through the eyes of our HF community. In today’s interview, we will embark on a journey to learn more about the beautiful Philippines from our new Marshal Miggieskies. Get your maps, pack the backpack, and let’s get going.
The Country Interview
Hi Miggieskies! Let’s start our expedition by asking: What is your nationality? If you have more than one, please mention them.
Well, I’m a fully born Filipino and raised in the Philippines!
That’s nice to hear! I hope you can share some interesting details. What are some traditions from the Philippines?
Let’s see. From my own experiences and the things I’ve seen, we’ve been taught to bless our elders as a sign of respect and is called “Mano”. We also have competitive karaoke for those who sing very well haha! and a very old but still a standing tradition is called “Bayanihan“, wherein we move a traditional house called Kubo, to its designated location!
Those are wonderful traditions! Can you tell us about some traditional Filipino foods?
Oh if you must! Please try Chop suey! It is a vegetable-made dish made from cauliflower carrots and other veggies! It’s one of the veggie dishes I love aaaand for dessert and perfect for the rainy days, try Champorado! It’s a rice-based dessert in which you cook rice with cocoa powder and sugar, which is paired with Evaporated Milk or Milk Powder! I’ve also heard from people across Cavite (a province here) that they use fish as a savory side!
Whoa, they sound delicious! If I ever visit the Philippines, I’ll be sure to try them. Have you visited some places or know some iconic attractions you recommend visiting?
YESSS and these are worth going for! well ofc, when you land here you are in the capital which is Manila. you can go to Fort Santiago in Intramuros, where you can see remnants of Spanish-colonial architecture and it is a historical site because that’s where our National Hero Jose Rizal was imprisoned before he got executed. He wrote 2 novels which have woken the Filipinos that Spain is an enemy and shall not let them take our country. If you wanna go out in the city, try going to El Nido in Palawan, where you can relax and see the most beautiful corals in here! and ofc, just a few miles away from Manila is Baguio, which is in the north and is the coldest province in our country because it reaches around 17°C. You can also visit the strawberry farms and see the Panabenga Festival during the months of February!
I’m sure those places are beautiful and worth visiting! Now, please rate your country in the three categories we talked about, using a scale from 1 to 10.
Well for the history and values I’ve learnt, I’d say its around 7/10, while for the food? Solid 10/10. and for the places? an 8/10 for me
Finally, would you recommend foreigners to visit the Philippines?
Being honest, yes. You will love the food and culture we have here! and the amount of hospitality Filipinos can do for you. But please do be careful!
And with this, my friends, we end the expedition in the Philippines. I will give a solid 8/10 on what Miggie described for us. See you guys next Saturdays with another mysterious person.
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
