Welcome back to another edition of Scorp hosts a tournament cuz he’s bored! This month, we are going to have a chess tournament. Unlike the usual HF games, we’re doing a slightly longer format to allow all interested people to join in.
Chess Tournament April ’25
Overview: This is a friendly tournament event run asynchronously over multiple time zones. All skill levels are welcome. This is a single elimination tournament- one loss and you’re out.
Platform: We encourage players to play their games on chess.com. However, if both players agree, they may use a different platform.
Seeding: Seeding will be done manually, on the basis of time zone, availability and skill level. We will do our best to ensure efficient proceedings and a comfortable, fun experience for everyone involved.
How To Register
Who Can Register: Everyone! All Help Force members including Visitors are welcome to join in.
Deadline To Join: April 12th, 9 am EST.
To Register: DM @overdrivenotes on Discord with your chess.com username and either your time zone or preferred timings to play in.
If you do not have a chess.com account, create one.
Game Rules
Brackets: We will release the first round brackets up to 2 hours after sign ups. Subsequent matchups will be announced as games are completed.
Scheduling: Once your pairing is announced, you have 12 hours to DM your opponent, agree on a time, and complete your game. DM @overdrivenotes in case of any scheduling issues.
Draws: In case of a draw, play a second game – within the time limit if possible.
Time Control: Choose between a bullet, blitz, rapid or no per-move clock game. However, you must finish the game within 12 hours.
Game Settings: Standard boards, no variants.
Result Reporting
The winner must DM a screenshot of the game to @overdrivenotes. Feel free to share a game link if you want to.
If a player doesn’t respond to their opponent’s DMs within 12 hours, they forfeit.
If two players fail to report their results within 12 hours and don’t provide a valid reason, the tournament forfeits their game and grants a bye to their next opponent.
In case of any disputes or issues regarding completing the game within 12 hours, DM @overdrivenotes to resolve the issue or come up with some extra provision.
Code of Conduct
All games need to follow HF rules and code of conduct.
Tournament rules prohibit engine and computer assistance.
You can play games outside your tournament matchups as long as you complete your current tournament game. Do not stall the tournament.
Good luck at the tournament!
