Why Legends Cup Matters

Legends Cup is the brand name of a Club Penguin army tournament that takes place every summer. The exact dates of the tournament are never the same, and it usually involves the army that places on top of the leaderboard dominating over all the others. The name is actually perfect for it. Whoever wins this gets to call themselves “legends” for a year.

However, earning bragging rights in the penguin community is not what makes this tournament so special. If that were the case, armies wouldn’t really bother going so far out of their way to schedule battles every weekend. Every year, army leaders grind their asses off to spam tactics, get recruits and march into this tournament with all they’ve got to win it. And in the end, the army that wins is the one that truly comes together to work as a collective person, determined to grab that cup. It sounds cheesy, but its the truth – you can’t win legends cup without your entire army supporting you as your friends.

Thinking about it now, that’s true for a lot of things that are hard to achieve. Making an example of my recent experiences, college events are usually not that fun. Many colleges have a system where you either form a committee or join a club, and this group of students is what organizes the events. These events are usually very boring. Like workshops. Or Model United Nations. Or publishing your own study related magazines. All of these things are not very interesting.

However, by some weird magic, every year more and more students get together to produce these boring events and somehow the content is better every time. This happens because they get together as a team. They form strong bonds with the people they work with, syncing their diverse talents to become a single, indomitable person. Having fun working towards a collective goal is what makes college events so much fun.

I guess the same can be said for Legends Cup. All of the winners of previous versions of this tournament somehow got so hyped at the prospect of winning this tournament that they dropped all their internal conflicts, mutual differences, and banded together to vibe, have fun working towards this goal and ultimately form the memory of an unforgettable victory. Even the troops, who had a fragile idea of what armies actually do, got infected by this vibe of collective striving and asked the staff or the leaders how they could help.

So, why does Legends Cup matter? Especially, in this era when there’s so much better things that you could be doing in armies, when there’s so many more innovative ideas that haven’t been incepted yet?  Because, it brings people together. Like-minded people, who just want this win in their life. Maybe they want this because they haven’t had any wins irl recently. Maybe they want this win because they’re bored of getting wins irl and wanna try this new experience. Of course, there will be the fools who mock wanting to win a penguin tournament when they haven’t even experienced the feeling yet. Imagine mocking something you don’t know anything about. Yes, people who have been in armies who previously lost are counted as people who haven’t experienced winning a tournament.

This Legends Cup matters because there’s people out there who have a collective goal. And somewhere, they’re already starting to get together with other like minded people of their army. They’re making plans for their future weeks together as a team, they’re making plans on how to convince more people to join their cause. And one of these groups is gonna be so huge and so hard working, no one else will be able to match their level of grind. No one will be able to defeat their determination, and they’ll get to call themselves legends for the rest of the year. You get to decide who that group is.
